COP 13 -- Bali Policy Page

After several months of planning, research, writing, drafting, editing, re-drafting, and re-writing, the Agents of Change delegates for the COP-13 Bali Delegation have officially completed three submissions to the UNFCCC Secretariat!  These submissions (focused on Adaptation, the Clean Development Mechanism, and Afforestation/Reforestation) not only enable SustainUS positions to reach numerous conference participants and government delegations indirectly through the conference website, but also help kick off the efforts to directly and personally contact and connect with those participants and other target audiences (other youth organizations, NGOs, etc.).  Between now and December, delegates will be working on policy briefings for several other topic areas.

  1. COP13/Article6
  2. COP13/CleanDevelopmentMechanism
  3. COP13/Deforestation
  4. COP13/IntroductionToBaliPolicy
  5. COP13/LULUCF
  6. COP13/Messaging
  7. COP13/Mitigation and Sustainability
  8. COP13/Post2012
  9. COP13/Reforestation
  10. COP13/RussianProposal

General comments: Are we not commenting on nuclear energy or deforestation & the CDM (compensated reductions)? The Bali Mandate and setting 2009 as an end-date for post-2012 negotiations? Are we advocating for stabilization at 450 ppm and 2degreesC? Maybe this isn't the appropriate place to include points on these matters, but if not here, where else? (Whit) (Juan: in response to whit, i think the intro should be left for an overview of delegation. the post 2012 section must touch on targets , and the other issues. But, it perhaps it would be good to have an vision of good climate policy in the intro, which applies now, post2012, and beyond)
